One of the things that have always bugged me about this sector list is whether or not its comprehensive. According to the Fed's Flow of Funds report, Americans hold about $8 Trillion in stocks. Yahoo's sector listing rolls up to $5.1 Trillion. I guess the difference lies in holdings of foreign stocks and foreign holdings of US securities. Still though, this Yahoo service is a really nice way to see the forest from the trees as it pertains to US equities.

Yahoo's Sector List
I'm a big fan of taking a couple hours every few months and spending it just poking around Yahoo's sector list. One of the many benefits it delivers is a sense of which sectors are most valued in the market. At a peak, The Financial sector comprised 30 - 35% of the total mkt cap. Today? 18%:
